Friulana Ambiente can manage every stage of this process, thanks to a site dedicated to the collection and storage of material to go into landfills, thanks to a sophisticated internal laboratory of analysis and an innovative plant for asbestos inertisation.

The asbestos issue

In the past, asbestos was a highly used material in the construction industry before discovering its hazardousness for man’s health. This material is hazardous because it releases fibres that can be potentially inhaled by man and that can cause serious diseases to our respiratory tract and more.

It is currently calculated that 32 million tons of asbestos cement and 1.5 billion square metres of coverings made of asbestos cement material are still present on the territory in Italy.

There are several disposal processes differing owing to their effectiveness and development costs.

Waste management

The asbestos collection centre, located in the industrial area of Pannellia in Codroipo, is the first asbestos collection centre in Friuli Venezia Giulia. As it has the Integrated Environmental Authorisation for managing hazardous and non-hazardous waste, it represents the point of reference for the whole region and for neighbouring markets.

Receipt and storage activity is addressed to specialised workers, waste management brokers, other workers working in the same sector, but to private citizens as well.

Our laboratory

It is crucial for materials deriving from demolition or restorations to be analysed to detect their composition and their potential hazardousness. Friulana Ambiente, thanks to its equipped chemical laboratory managed by a team of experienced scientific researchers can carry out the chemical analyses needed for the Friulana Costruzioni division or on behalf of third parties.

Asbestos disposal: the Rinnova solution

After having established the presence of asbestos in demolition materials the problem of its proper disposal arises. Its transport into landfills cannot be considered an effective solution because the problem is not solved but only moved.

Rinnova is the pilot plant by Friulana Ambiente for treating asbestos-containing materials, a registered patent which has been approved by the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region. It is the first plant on the whole national territory. The plant allows almost a total recovery of treatment by-products and aims to inertise asbestos cement, the main material among asbestos-containing materials.
